AFTERCARE

TAttoos

A healthy lifestyle promotes faster healing - remember that weather, stress and overall health can and will affect the healing process.

DO'S

Keep the tattoo clean. Make sure that everything that touches it is clean; including hands, clothing, and sheets. Clean the tattoo twice a day with soap and warm water.

Apply a small amount of moisturizer twice a day to the tattoo for 10-14 days. Good moisturizers include naturally made moisturizers such as beeswax based salves, Aquaphor, or an unscented lotions. Do not use Neosporin or Petroleum Jelly.

Remember your sunscreen, and keep a still healing tattoo covered when outside.

DONT'S

Do not scratch or pick at the new tattoo during the healing process.

Never soak your new tattoo – no baths, hot springs, pools, rivers, saunas, etc.  Showering is fine.

Avoid wearing anything that will rub against or irritate your new tattoo.

Piercings

Please remember your piercing is a splinter and your body will treat it as such. The plasma  buildup and keloids are a natural defense. Relax and enjoy the aesthetics of your piercing…its not a toy.

DO'S

Keep in the original jewelry in until the initial healing process is done (two weeks for mucus membranes such as noses or mouths, 6 weeks for everything else).  Remember that the full healing process is two years for most piercings.

Use a basic antibacterial soap in the shower, rinsing thoroughly.  (Note: Noses skip this step)

Using a cotton swab or Q tip, clean the piercing with sea salt solution, filtered tap water, or sterile saline that you buy (Wound Wash, not contact solution).  The recipe for sea salt solution is one 20 oz bottle of water with 1 tablespoon of non-iodized sea salt.

For oral piercings, keep the mouth cool and clean by rinsing with cold, clean water immediately after any use of the mouth (eating, drinking, flossing, brushing, smoking, etc).  Also rinse with sea salt solution twice a day for 5-7 days with the recipe above.

DONT'S

Do not irritate your new piercing. Irritation includes touching (even with clean hands), spinning the jewelry, over-cleaning the piercing more than recommended, or switching it out too often.

Do not use Neosporin, rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.
